Starlight Cinema

Movies at the Museum is a free outdoor film series presented by IES Events to benefit the Poquoson Museum. Please be advised: 

Overview

1) Movies start at sunset. You’re welcome to bring lawn chairs, and blankets. No large coolers, umbrellas,  

2) Smoking is strictly prohibited on Museum grounds.

3) Please leave your pets at home. No animals, except for certified service animals, are allowed. 

4)  All minors, anyone under 18 years old, MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

5) Bring your bug spray, picnic blanket, low rise beach chairs, family and friends and have a good time! 

6) Event security will absolutely NOT tolerate groups disturbing the movie. Please find a seat and be respectful of your surroundings and neighbors’ movie watching experience. If you are there to socialize and not watch the movie, please do so outside of the viewing area. 

Questions and Answers

Q: Are alcoholic beverages permitted? 

A: There will be no alcoholic beverage sales at the event. 


Q: Will food be available for purchase at Movies at the Museum? 

A: A variety of basic concessions and food trucks will be available. 


Q: Can I bring my own food? 

A: Yes. Please remember to clean up after yourself when the movie is over. 


Q: What type of amenities are at this location? 

A: Limited amenities are available, porta-potties for public use. 


Q: Is there handicapped access? 

A: Yes. The movies are open seating on grass, but there some areas available on level ground for those with mobility concerns. 


Q: When you say sundown, what time do you really mean? 

A: We generally start the movie as the sun begins to set. If you would like a specific time, please refer to Weather.com for more specific sunset times. These times can be extended up to 15 minutes past sundown depending on the current lighting conditions. 


Q: How much does it cost? 

A: Parking is $10 per vehicle. Admission to the event is free, and upgraded VIP Access is available, and includes parking, VIP area in front of screen, VIP Lounge access, Bug repellant lotion, and sampling for $25.


Q: Where are the movies shown? 

A: During the summer months, movies are shown at the Poquoson Museum. The movie parking lot is accessed from Poquoson Avenue/Little Florida Road. Watch for directional signage. 


Q: When can I enter the park and the movie viewing area? 

A: 1 ½ hours before sunset, about 6:30 pm patrons will be allowed to start taking their seats for the movie screening. 


Q: Do I need to bring a blanket or lawn chairs in order to enjoy the movie? 

A: We highly encourage you to bring blankets and/or lawn chairs. However, everyone wants to be able to see the movie, so please be courteous to other movie-goers around you when choosing a location to set up your lawn chairs. Tents, umbrellas, and other temporary structures are not permitted. 


Q: What happens if it rains? 

A: Movies will be cancelled if weather conditions are predicted to be too wet or unsafe. Weather updates will be posted on the website and on the Facebook page as far in advance as possible.


Q: Are pets allowed at Movies at the Museum? 

A: No. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at Movies at the Museum. No animals, except for certified service animals, are allowed. Comfort pets do not qualify as trained service dogs. 


Q: Is smoking permitted? 

A: No, Smoking is not permitted on Museum grounds. 


Q: Will food be available for purchase at Movies at the Museum? 

A: A variety of basic concessions (popcorn, bottled water, soda) will be available during Movies at the Museum offered, when available.
